About your car

A brand-new Mustang, locked in before Townsville gets to it

[Example copy, written from the job voice note] Your Mustang came to us with only a few hundred kilometres on it, but it had already picked up what most new cars do: light transport marks on the bonnet, rail dust in the lower panels, and fine wash swirls on the driver's door from the dealer prep.

We corrected all of that first, so the coating seals in a clean finish rather than the defects. The paint is now under nine years of protection against UV, salt air and bird droppings.

The work

What we did to your car

Every step of your Platinum Protection package, in the order we did it.

  1. 01

    Decontamination wash

Strip wash, wheels, arches and jambs, then iron fallout remover and a clay bar to lift the rail dust.

  2. 02

    Paint inspection

Every panel checked under studio lights and measured with a paint depth gauge. Your readings are below.

  3. 03

    Single-stage polish

A one-stage machine polish to remove light swirls and marring and bring up the gloss before anything was sealed in.

  4. 04

    Crystal Serum Ultra

Panel wipe, then Gtechniq's flagship coating hand-applied panel by panel and left to cure in the studio.

  5. 05

    EXO v5 top layer

A slick hydrophobic layer on top, so water and dirt slide off and washing takes half the time.

Beyond the brief

A few extras while it was with us

Not part of the package. We noticed them, so we sorted them.

No extra charge
Close-up of the red Brembo brake caliper behind the alloy wheel

Brake calipers detailed

[Example] Brake dust had baked onto the Brembo calipers. Wheels came off, calipers cleaned by hand.

Mustang interior: steering wheel, digital dash and centre console

Interior wipe-down

[Example] Dash, screens and console dusted and wiped, and the protective plastics from delivery removed.

Door jambs and fuel flap

[Example] Cleaned out the road grime from the jambs and fuel flap, then sealed them so they stay easy to wipe down.

Tyres and trims dressed

[Example] A satin dressing on the tyres and black plastics to finish the car off properly.

Good to know

A few notes on your car

[Example] Your Mustang has the factory paint protection film on the door edges. We coated over it, so it's protected too, but avoid pressure-washing right at the film's edge.

[Example] The rear parking sensors were reading a little dirty when the car came in. They're clean now, but if the warning comes back, a gentle wipe with a damp microfibre sorts it.

Measured, not guessed

Your paint thickness readings

We measured every painted panel with a paint depth gauge before polishing. Readings are in microns (µm). A human hair is about 70 µm thick.

7 panels healthy

Plenty of clear coat left. These panels can be safely polished again in future.

Right front guard: 88 µm

[Example] Thin for a new car. We didn't polish this panel at all; it's now protected by the coating as-is.

Left door: 104 µm

[Example] Slightly thinner than the rest. We used a lighter polish here to keep as much clear coat as possible.

Why it matters

Your clear coat is thinner than a sheet of paper

The shine you see is the clear coat, the top layer of your paint. It's what protects the colour underneath from UV and the weather, and it's the layer we polish.

Every polish removes a tiny amount of it. Measuring first tells us how much we can safely take off, and tells you how healthy your paint is for the future. Once it's gone, the only fix is a respray.

  • Safer polishing. Thin panels get a gentler approach, or none at all.
  • A record for resale. Even readings show a buyer the car hasn't been resprayed.
  • A baseline for next year. We compare against these numbers at your inspection.

Aftercare

How to look after your coating

Do these few things and the coating will keep doing its job for its full warranty.

  1. First 7 days

    Let it cure

No washing. If a bird dropping lands, dab it off gently with a damp microfibre.

  2. Every 2–3 weeks

    Gentle hand wash

pH-neutral shampoo and a microfibre mitt. Rinse well and dry with a clean towel.

  3. Every 12 months

    Inspection & top-up

Bring it back so we can check the coating and re-measure your paint.

Do

  • Use the two-bucket method so grit stays off the paint
  • Wash in the shade, never on hot Townsville panels
  • Remove bird droppings and bugs quickly
  • Use a Gtechniq top-up spray every few months

Don't

  • Go through automatic brush car washes
  • Use dish soap, degreasers or harsh chemicals
  • Wax or polish over the coating; you don't need to
  • Dry wipe dusty paint with a dry cloth

Common questions

Now that it's done

When can I wash it for the first time?

Give the coating 7 days to fully cure. After that, a gentle hand wash every 2–3 weeks is all it needs.

Can I take it through an automatic car wash?

Avoid brush washes; they put swirls back into the paint. A touchless wash is OK when you're short on time, but a hand wash is best.

What keeps my warranty valid?

Your warranty covers the coating's performance when it's maintained as described above, including the annual inspection.

Does the coating stop stone chips?

No coating is chip-proof. It resists light wash marks, UV fade and chemical etching, but stone chips need paint protection film.

I've noticed a mark. What should I do?

Send us a photo or give us a call. If anything isn't right, we'll fix it.

Leave us a review. Your first wash is on us.

A quick Google review helps other Townsville drivers find us, and it takes about 30 seconds. As a thank-you, we'll come to you for a free mobile wash.

Keep it looking like this

The exact shampoo, mitts and top-up spray we recommend for a coated car, and how to use each one.

Recommended products
  1. 1
    Gtechniq GWash
    pH-neutral shampoo

A capful in your wash bucket. Safe on the coating and won't strip it.

  2. 2
    Microfibre wash mitt
    Two-bucket method

Rinse it in the second bucket after every panel so grit stays off the paint.

  3. 3
Gtechniq MF2 Zero Scratch drying towel
    Drying

Lay it flat and pat or drag gently. Never rub in circles.

  4. 4
    Gtechniq C2v3 Liquid Crystal
    Top-up spray, every few months

Mist onto a clean, dry panel and buff off with a fresh microfibre.

  5. 5
Gtechniq W6 Iron and General Fallout Remover
    Every 6 months

Spray on, wait for it to turn purple, rinse off. Lifts brake dust and rail dust.
